Project Overview

When I joined Haleon, one of the first projects that landed on my desk was Growing at Haleon Week (GAHW), and it was no small task.
This was Haleon’s first-ever global event of its kind: five days, nine sessions, 13 speakers (five external industry leaders and eight internal executives), and thousands of employees tuning in from around the world.

My role?
To lead video production with an external vendor, design the event’s visual identity, and build an internal website that would become the central hub for everything.

Getting Started - Listening First

Before touching any design tools, I started with conversations.
I sat with my team to understand the event goals, session topics, and audience needs. I went through Haleon’s brand guidelines to make sure the look and feel would be on-brand yet exciting.

I also spoke directly with most of the speakers; this helped me gather session details and personal insights I could bring to life on the website.

My Design Process

Mapping the Experience
  • Designed a sitemap for the website to ensure all content, including the agenda, speaker bios, and resources, had a logical place.

  • Created an interactive calendar so attendees could quickly find and join their sessions.

Prototyping the Event Hub
  • Sketched the first wireframes and turned them into a rough UI.

  • Partnered with the SharePoint team to understand the platform’s capabilities (it was my first time building on SharePoint).

Testing & Iterating
  • Ran internal test sessions with the team to check navigation flow and functionality.

  • Updated the UI based on user feedback prior to the official launch.

Final Integration
  • Added speaker bios, event visuals, and all session links.

  • Made sure the site was mobile-friendly and easy to access for a global audience.

Goals

The primary objective was to create a user-friendly website that served as a hub for event information while ensuring adherence to Haleon’s branding.

GOAL 1

Provide a centralized location for event schedules and resources.

GOAL 2

Enhance user engagement by enabling easy access to speaker information and event updates.

GOAL 3

Facilitate cross-team collaboration to ensure consistency in branding and messaging.

Challenges Along the Way

Challenge 1: Building on SharePoint without prior experience.

Solution: Worked closely with the SharePoint tech team, learned the platform on the go, and did multiple test runs before launch.

Challenge 2: Mid-event crisis - on Day 2, backend analytics showed zero activity.

Solution: Discovered that the site had been accidentally deleted. Restored it immediately, restricted access, and implemented regular monitoring to prevent future issues.

Surveys

I conducted a post-event survey among participants to gather feedback on their experience with the event website. The survey targeted attendees from various departments to ensure a diverse range of insights. Key questions focused on usability, accessibility of information, and overall satisfaction with the event resources. The feedback provided valuable insights that guided later iterations of the website design and content organization.

Wireframes

During the wireframing process, I translated initial sketches into structured layouts that visually organized the content for the event website. These wireframes focused on user flows, ensuring a logical arrangement of session schedules, speaker information, and resource links. Testing these wireframes within the team helped refine navigation and identify potential usability issues before the development stage.

UI Design

The final UI was designed to align with Haleon’s brand standards, using a cohesive color palette and typography to enhance brand recognition. I prioritized visually appealing elements, ensuring that the site was not only functional but also engaging for attendees. This approach contributed to a positive user experience, helping to reinforce Haleon's commitment to employee engagement during the event.
