Overview
As lead motion designer, I turned a static brand concept into an engaging video highlighting their blueprint-to-reality process. The tight timeline—3 days to event—demanded rapid iteration, but a laptop crash corrupting my After Effects file mid-way tested true grit, ultimately showcasing adaptive leadership under pressure.
Challenge & Crisis
Arena Interiors needed a standout intro for their US event, emphasizing blueprint-driven renovations for homeowners and businesses. Day 1: Defined style, sketched storyboard on paper, built first 30 seconds synced to voiceover. By midday Day 2: Half-complete, planning edits/music/render. Then disaster—laptop overheated during test render, shut down, and AE file corrupted. Client extended just half a day as event loomed evening Day 3.
Strategy & Recovery
Calmed panic, consulted client for extension, then leveraged existing assets: All illustrations done, storyboard clear. Rallied a fellow designer to mirror my style for the second 30 seconds' visuals—shared references for consistency. Refocused on straight 6-hour marathon rebuild of lost footage, prioritizing core animations while they handled new elements.
Execution
Illustration
Crisp vector line art in Illustrator (blueprint palette: #007BFF gradients).
Animation
After Effects rebuild—line extrudes, fade-ins, camera pans (10s sketch intro, 30s build, 20s CTA); saved incrementally post-crisis.
Editing
Premiere Pro for VO sync, minimalist ambient music, optimized exports. Collaborative handoff ensured on-time completion; client approved first take for event use.
Impact
Event-ready on time, it wowed attendees, boosting inquiries (client-reported 25% lift). Praised for "professional creativity," it reinforced brand voice. Key learning: Auto-saves, cloud backups, and networks save deadlines—resilience turned setback into portfolio strength.
